Due to halloween the servers are bustling with people atm come to enjoy the festivities. It's not as many people as there used to be, but it's still enough to easily find groups in PvP and endgame content, especially if you're a part of an active guild.
The starting areas aren't really populated at all unfortunately because everyone has already done the campaign serveral times already, there is however some new players still coming (probably mainly to check the game out before gw2). On the good side is that you're now able to solo the campaigns if you want due to heroes and the fact that you now can have 7 of them in your team. (due to this reason it's probably best to start in nightfall, though everyone should experience the full prophesis campaign). To sum things up: the game is well worth the money. Buy it now |

Mostly the feeling of just starting the game and being in pre-searing, and ofcourse the story of prophesis. Nothing that you can't do once you've done (or paralell to) Nightfall and maybe eotn as well (so you'll have most heroes), except for the thing I mentioned: the first thing you experience when playing gw won't be pre-searing (probably some nostalgia kicking in, but seriously it's one of my favorite themes in the entire game (the enviroment is so pretty)).

Elementalist works. I've got one. Lightning is my favorite. The Ele does take a penalty in Hard Mode. But the decrease in damage is not critical. With a good 7 hero party my Lightning Ele does fine in Hard Mode, and of course normal mode is a cakewalk unless I get snowed by aggro.
Hard Mode is available only after you have completed the final mission in at least one campaign. The Nightfall campaign is a great place to start. The starting island is very beautiful, mostly, and cake take you to level 18.5 approximately. At that point you do a mission that takes you to the mainland where Nightfall really gets rolling. I personally liked the story in Nightfall a great deal. It is a good story. You get a number of heroes in Nightfall and it is fun to set them up and configure them as you get new skills along the way. Each campaign has a story, but the three stories are somewhat independent. Enough so that the final expansion Eye of the North is necessary to tie them all together. You do not have to play the campaigns in order. Do try and find a good guild. That will help a lot. http://www.guildwiki.org/Main_Page has lots of good information as you start out and progress through the game. |

Truthfully there no such thing as whats the best tbh,
Play what you like as everyones gameplay is different. So enjoy whatever profession as you like elementist then play it althogh in hard mode ther not so hot. But you have a long ways to go there as you have 8 slots so 8 professions to choose and each one can travel to every campaign when they reach the relavant area. As this is halloween event the areas are busy obtaining quests ect. Plenty of time and the servers will not go down when gw2 is released they have confirmed ..that Enjoy the fun and play whever suits you nobody else can advise such |

Lots of discussion around here about what prof to pick.... but don't be too worried: if you're just looking to have fun of the game and his storyline, anything will be fine, expecially when you'll start figure how make it work well.
Even if you'll later get more in-depht and high.end content (HM, PvP, SC and that kind of stuff that will prolly take some time to get into - aka ignore those until you've completed all storylines) you can always create other chars. Anyway, rule n?? 1 to enjoy this game is: Find a active (and helpful if you're new to GW) Guild and learn how to play, familiarizing the mechanics and so on. Umh, slow writing (coffee break) -> double ninja! |

We just had a new player join our guild and it was great to witness him experiencing the game. A helpful guild can provide advice and assistance that will prevent the game from becoming frustrating to a newbie.

I would suggest starting with Nightfall, since you will gain access to heroes quickly. Any profession is capable in PvE, you may have to roll a couple characters and see what type of gameplay you prefer, as end game content is significantly different than going through the missions / quests.
Starting as a caster is probably the best choice, as melee require adequate weaponry and knowledge of mechanics. As a caster you just get to blow everything up with 1-8 from a distance. Fire Elementalists can roll through almost all areas of PvE with little effort, due to massive AoE damage. However, I honestly suggest rolling monk at least once, just to get an idea of how the main healer class works in GW. General Tip, make use of your second profession, having access to the skills of a complementary class is nothing but beneficial (eg. going X/mo is NEVER a bad decision). Once you get to ascension you will be able to freely choose between any other profession as your second, so I would suggest picking one that will either help you level, or protect you dying, damage should come from your primary profession unless you are running a gimmick build. |

I always suggest you start one character of each profession, or as many as your slots permit. You really won't get a great feel for them until they reach lvl 20 and have lots of skills and elite skills to pick from. However, even if you only play them for a little while you will learn a bit about the profession, and unlock a few skills. This become important later in the game when your working in a team, or with hench/heroes.
GW is very much a team based game and knowing how each profession works helps to make for better team play. Above all...have fun! |
